“I was just sitting here eating lunch and 30 minutes later my life is completely changed.” Lives completely changed – that’s what our goal is for the NYC Spring Break. We want the lives of the students who are here for the week to be changed by learning to start spiritual conversations and share the gospel, here and back on their own campuses, and we want the lives of NYC students to be changed by hearing the transforming words of the good news of God’s love and forgiveness.
Chase, who came to NYC Spring Break with a Cru group from the University of Georgia, was sharing at York College in Queens. He met Sam (not his real name), a student from Egypt, who grew up in a Muslim home. Chase steered the conversation toward spiritual things, and asked Sam, “Did you know that God wants to have a personal relationship with you?” “No”, replied Sam. Chase asked, “Do you want to know more?”, to which Sam replied, “Heck, yes!” Chase began to use the Knowing God Personally booklet to share the four spiritual principals to having a personal relationship with God.
Briefly, the four points in the Knowing God Personally booklet are God’s love, our condition (sinful and separated), God’s response (sending Jesus to die in our place), and our response (accepting or rejecting God’s gift of salvation). In the middle of Chase explaining the four points, Sam exclaimed, “I love this booklet! Can I keep it?”
After hearing the four points, Sam prayed the prayer accepting Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Afterward, Sam said, “I was just sitting here eating lunch and 30 minutes later my life is completely changed.” Please pray for Sam and the many other students whose lives are being completely changed by the gospel during our three weeks of spring break conferences.
Our second week of spring break is going on right now, and we’ve had some weather challenges. On Tuesday, we had a blizzard, which thankfully produced less snow than was forecast. Since all schools including colleges in the area were closed, we had to switch the students’ day off from Wednesday to Tuesday to make sure they had plenty of time on campus to have spiritual conversations. This weekend, our last group arrives. They’re from Wisconsin so a little cold weather won’t bother them!
We really appreciate your prayers for us and our ministry with Cru. Please pray for my (Steve’s) health. I have struggled with fatigue and achiness for several years and it has worsened this year. “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Yours in Christ,
Steve & Robin
