“I find comfort in prayer but at times ‘forget’ about the importance of keeping the Lord a priority in my life which leads me to spiral back into a place of discomfort.” This was written on a response card by a young woman who prayed to receive Christ as her savior at a recent Cru outreach at NYU.
About 140 college-aged women came to the outreach to hear from Marian Jordan Ellis. Marian, founder of Redeemed Girl Ministries, told the group how she looked for love and significance in all the wrong places in her younger years. One night, feeling alone and empty, she cried out to God in a bar, and a few days later, a friend invited her to church. Marian’s life was changed forever by the truth of the Gospel.
At the outreach, Marian’s testimony spoke to the hearts of many of the young women. According to the response cards, 39 women gave their lives to Christ that night! Our NYC Cru staff women are following up with these 39 students to answer any questions they have and to give them steps to grow in their faith. They will learn about things like assurance of salvation, God’s love and forgiveness, and what healthy, Biblical relationships look like.
In late October, Robby and Annie visited us. It was fun to show them our apartment, which we share with Rachel and Caleb (and their three cats), and to show them what life looks like for us here. One day, we went apple picking in the Hudson Valley, which was a new experience for all six of us!
Robby and Annie are moving to Wellington, New Zealand at the end of the month. He’ll be working as a computer programmer for Weta Workshop, which is Peter Jackson’s special effects company. Please pray for them as they look for a place to live and settle into a new life. Rachel and Caleb are loving life in NYC. Caleb works for Betterment, a large investment company. He rides his bike to and from the office each day. Please pray for his safety, and for both of them as they continue to settle into NYC.
In this season of thanksgiving, Philippians 1:3-4 expresses how we feel about you: “I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy.” You are truly a blessing to us!
Yours in Christ,
Steve & Robin
