“I feel like my whole life has been building up to this one moment,’ exclaimed Isa, an NYU freshman. David, a Cru NYC staff member, recently met with Isa to talk about the spiritual interest survey Isa filled out earlier. David started with some basic questions related to school, but right away Isa redirected: “What do you believe about Jesus?” Knowing there was more to his question, David answered and returned the question. As it turns out, Isa had attended a Christian high school, despite coming from a nonreligious household in the Middle East.
Isa recounted all he’d learned about God becoming a man and dying on the cross and said, “I just don’t know what to do with all this information, though. I figured you might be able to answer my questions.” This blew David away because many people don’t realize that it’s not enough to have head knowledge about God and Jesus.
David affirmed that what Isa had learned about Christianity was all true, but there was more. He shared the Knowing God Personally booklet with Isa and explained that in order to have a true relationship with God, we must individually receive Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord. David shared, ‘To all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12).’
Isa had always trusted in his own goodness, ability, and knowledge to be right with God, but it never seemed to satisfy him. Even though he had known about Jesus for a long time, Isa bowed his head and asked Jesus to be his personal Lord and Savior. David had never seen someone so excited to become a Christian! David and Isa are meeting weekly to talk about his newfound faith. Please pray for Isa as he grows in his walk with the Lord.
Robin and I are in one of our busy seasons. This week in NYC, we’re helping with a group of Cru new staff and interns from the Northeast who came here for training, and we’re helping host a group of Cru staff who are here to see if God is asking them to join the Cru team in NYC. Please pray that these staff will hear clearly from the Lord and will be obedient to His calling, wherever that may be.
Next month, we’re helping with Preview Weekend, where interested college seniors will be challenged to give a year or more of their lives to serve the Lord with Cru in the Northeast and around the world. We’re expecting about 100 seniors at this conference. Please pray for these students, and for us as we work on the details of the conference. Pray also for us as we lead Operations for our Northeast Cru Staff Conference in mid-November.
Thank you for praying for us and our ministry. We are continually amazed to see how God is moving in the lives of college students and others who are coming to know Him personally.
Yours in Christ,
Steve & Robin
